Chris McCaw's on his Sunburn series

On the photoeye blog, there is an interview with Chris McCaw with details about the big cameras he has built for his Sunburn project:

An interesting concept although, the images don't do much for me (I prefer richer visuals).

Chris is a great guy and I love this work. Like most things, they are much more interesting in person than on the web.

I certainly agree. FYI, I've seen the work at the Stephen Wirtz Gallery.

They talked too much about his cameras. Personally I am more interested in his images than his cameras, but that is par for the course these days. There is too much technical talk in the art world. The process sometimes gets more coverage than the images, as if the value if the images is directly tied to the obscurity of the equipment making them. This is akin to seeing Usain Bolt break the world record and then someone asks "did you see his shoes?" As if the shoes did the running.

I have seen some of his smaller prints a few years ago. I like his images. I think they are refreshing departure from the norm. Sometimes I can't believe he can still keep doing them well. I ask myself how many times can he photograph the sun? Yet he keeps doing it and doing it in an interesting way. Cheers to that!
