    May 2012 Portraits

Happy May Day! Here's a shot of my wife waking up in bed. (Yes, she is very patient.)

4x5 Pacemaker Speed Graphic, 6" B&L Cinephor projection Petzval, expired Polaroid type 51 film, negative scan.

My thanks to both of you for your comments above. I was quite happy with this one, too. Even the wife liked it!

Was this handheld? Either way, lovely shot. I like the off-center framing.

Thanks Jonathan, not handheld, just clunking along. I was thinking sometimes that I try to make my LF pictures look like 35mm pictures and my 35mm pictures look like LF pictures.

I think it's great to break the uber-formailty of LF sometimes. That portrait of the runner does not look LF to me, in a good way. Nice tonality and all that goes with it but there is a feeling of spontaneity that usually accompanies smaller formats.

Thanks J. I'm trying to split the middle, I think. Part of that is that my desired method of working is walking around with the camera on my shoulder and taking pictures of strangers. I don't get a lot of time and that keeps things informal.

Unfortunately I forgot to tone the picture, so I just replaced it on flickr. So I have to replace it here:

I'm a sucker for warm tone images myself. Even better!
