    The model number “4490” looks like “4990” – so Daryl is actually correct. Indeed, the two model numbers look so similar, I’ve heard of people ordering the 4490 from Epson’s clearance site, thinking it was the 4990! I can only imagine the bewilderment of an 8x10 photographer laying his film down on a just-ordered 4490.

    The refurbished 4990 I found is under $100. Absolutely nothing but the scanner. Good deal? Will operate as is (power adapter needed of course)?
