Some Soft Focus Lens Sales Information

There haven't been many (any?) lenses this size to compare the market for. We should record that this was a 33 inch focal length lens, about the size of an outdoor metal trash can. Three times larger than the average Petzvals that are selling every month. I've never seen a lens this size, though it was in Tucson and I had an appointment to go see it....

another, as good or better condition, 6" lens dia. voigtlander petzval (i.e. the same lens) sold on E--bay--de for a mere ~2300 Euro just 3 months ago. That seller didnt ship to China!

I'm amazed there were > 6-7 bidders over $6000

The international shipping cost was quite impressive ($450 to Europe I think) but I guess it is okay if you don't mind spending 8k.

Given this (German Ebay) lens is listed as 10 kg or about 23 pounds and 46 cm long, this lens seems to be smaller than the US Ebay lens, no ? Could our German speaking friends weigh in?

In comparing this lens to the one I own, which is 15" tall and has a FL of 30" at f5, there is are 7 inches difference in height and 3 inches difference in focal length. Although, the lens shade on the $11,000 one is longer by 1 1/2 inch so the difference in height of the lens sans shade is approx. 5 1/2 inches. This leads me to think about the distance between the front and rear groups and how critical this distance is in the Petzval design. It seems to me that the $11,000 Voigt doesn't necessarily need to be so long for its focal length. Of course the FL provided by the seller might not be accurate and could be longer or shorter. Geoff

Come on, guys, everything anythin will change hands sooner or later, unless we demand something to be cremated The thing with some of the recent purchasing is that the buyers are all acutally lens users, not collectors. I am sure this lens will see light after more than a 100 years soon. Not me, I didn't have anything to do with it this time
