    Best photo mounting method

When I had my first 16 x 20 photo mounted, the shop used a dry mount method and mounted the photo on thick white paper that was then taped to the mat. It has always bothered me that the mounted photo was not smooth and was somewhat dimpled. The original print was made on Fuji Crystal Archive paper and was flawlessly smooth and clear. Should the photo have been mounted on a thicker foam core board? Will a dry mounted photo be smooth in appearance? What is the best method to request in the future? Thanks again. Steve

    Re: Best photo mounting method

My Ilfochrome images are mounted on museum board (4 or 8 ply depending on print size) and held in place using mylar silver tape at the top corners. They are overmatted with museum board then framed in glass. The print has a sort of long range waviness but is of course free of the dimpling sometimes associated with adhesive or dry mount.
My method is pretty old fashioned though.
