Question re: Epson 3800 ink jet levels-scale

My question is in regard to the scales showing ink jet levels for each particular colored catridge. The scales, seem to me, are not accurately showing the levels of ink, either consumed or what ink remains in the respective cartridges.

In checking with the Epson status monitor, the levels of ink are consistant with the scale on the exterior of the machine. When the ink levels are getting "lower" (usage) but not totally consumed, I get prints which are off colored indicating a ink/s is (are)needed. (Epson should have a built in indicator which says, "it's necessary to replace..."

My question specific is: are the scales true? Why should the scales/ink jet levels per cartridge show remaining ink in the cartridges, yet prints are showing something amiss?

I have done the cleaning of heads, etc--why do the scales show ink in the catridges, yet replacement is indicated by the way my prints turn out?

It sounds like you're having a problem with your print head, ink cartridge, or ink feed lines. I've always gotten perfect prints until the cartridge actually runs out. Even when the indicators show the cartridges as empty==they still have a few mls of ink remaining, so you shouldn't be seeing any effect when the indicators are low.

I routinely use the printer with low ink indicator until the printer stops printing. I then replace the cartridge and it picks up where it left off, no gaps, the print is fine. You must have another problem if you're getting off-color (not pornographic ) prints.

Just to double check--you can print until the machine stops on its own? I've never trusted the scales either but never risked printing too many prints after it started flashing ...

As for discolored prints as the print cartridge empties, I've never seen that happen.
