Wista DX 1/4-20 thread to 3/8" Tiltall...?

It looks like my new/used Wista has a 1/4-20 mount, and my old Marchioni Bros. Tiltall
is 3/8" . Is there an easy fix to this? I'd preferably like to change the Wista mount as this would allow me to use the Tiltall with my med. format gear. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Wista service is Marflex 252 652-4401. Call them during the week and ask. Are you sure your tripod isn't 1/4" with a 3/8" bushing on the tripod thread? If so just unscrew the bushing.

I am assuming the 3/8 screw is on the top of the tripod legs, not protruding from a pan/tilt head. This is common on many tripods. It this is the case, you can simply get a tripod head that accepts the 3/8 thread and has the 1/4-20 thread for your camera.

If you have a tripod head with only a 3/8 screw, then you'll likely find it is easier to change heads than deal with having a machinist drill and tap the plate on the bottom of your camera.

Linhof used to make ballheads with a very convenient top plate that could be inverted to give 3/8" or 1/4" camera screw as desired. Most heads with quick change plates can be fitted with plates with screws with either size. Manfrotto/Bogen and others have these systems.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll call Marflex this week. The 3/8" thread is on the pan/tilt head, and I don't see an easy/workable way of removing the head from this old Tiltall and fitting a different head on it. There's a shop in Col. that specializes in Tiltall support and mods....I'm waiting for a response from them. If nothing else works, I might have to get another tripod for the Wista , as I'm headed out west for 3 weeks in July.

Tiltalls were made with a non-removable head and I've never seen one with a 3/8 attaching screw. Is it possible there's a 3/8 adapter stuck on the 1/4 screw?
Anyhow... The mounting plate is attached to the tilt assembly with four screws under the pad remove it & replace the screw with 1/4-20.
