    Re: Ruins

The first thing I saw was the Kiva, and it occurred to me that I might not get to New Mexico anytime soon, so it will have to do. Then when I got around to a good view of it, the alien background was inescapable... I like to think that maybe the contraptions are a spaceship that came in for a landing when they heard the chants and saw the dances...

Looking at some images of West Indies sugar mill ruins recently taken around 2002 in the winter.
Found this one from the interior of Saint John Island surrounded with jungle like growth. January 2002. Probably from about the 18th century. Old speed graphic with 12 in Ektar. Fuji Velvia 50. V750 scan with PS shadow and highlight enhancements.

Thanks mono. I think I have the lens wrong - had to be the 203 mm. Ektar, at minimum aperture. Need to check on that. The camera was later damaged (bellows) by drips from a poisonous Manchineel tree while set up on the beach. I was also damaged by being so careless about a problem I already knew about.

    Sorry to hear that, Nate!
Must have been a terrible experience to you.
I never heard of that tree before, we do not have it over here,
    so: lucky me ;-)

    Re: Ruins

Friendship was a cranberry farming community that was abandoned in the 1930s or thereabouts. What is
left of it has suffered extensive vandalism over the years. The State, having no money or interest for
historic preservation, has attempted to preserve something of what is left by dumping concrete into the
basements, putting up steel barriers, and so on.

It was just me and the birds there, this day. One bird flew into my car and needed help to get out. A
    swallow, I believe.

    Where are we going?
And why are we in this handbasket?

I like this thread. I wonder why it's been sleeping for four and a half years.
