    Pierre Gonnord

Pierre Gonnord is a French portrait photographer who concentrates on people that are considered outsiders: people who are blind, homeless or gypsies. Apparently, he's inspired by painters such as Rembrandt and Vermeer, uses very low key lighting and prints his images at hyper life size. He's currently got a show in New York City at the Hasted Kraeutler Gallery. Here's a link http://hastedkraeutler.com/home.php

I've done an extensive internet search of Gonnord in hopes of discovering any information about his technical shooting. So far I've come up empty. Does anyone know if he's shooting large format, his film choices, and so forth?

Give the gallery a call and ask, and let us know what they say please.

I expect to be in that area this week and might drop in.

the video gives the impressions the detail look like a large format....I guess just like some actual paintings--they are designed to be looked at from a certain distance to get the effect...get close and you see the grains and such--unless the digital processing somehow changes the grain to some painting looking dots or brush swipes

but then again, just because I wouln't enlarge anything that didn't show detail up close, that don't mean someone else wouldn't...and that don't mean that it ain't considered to be very high quality...

I spoke to someone at Hasted Kraeutler Gallery this morning. Gonnord does indeed shoot with a Hasselblad as Prado has indicated in a previous post. But his images are made both on film and digitally; film up through 2006, later work with a digital back. All the prints in this particular show are digital C's.
