...Valley today and tonight. I just got off the phone with one of the rangers. Expect some windy conditions though!

John - guess I'll drive up this weekend to get the porch and yard cleared of downfall.
I have a nice view of Shuteye Pk across the pasture, which really gets nice when it
is filled with wildflowers. But a short walk up the road I can see into the San Joaquin
Can to Kaiser Peak and beyond to Mammoth Mtn and the Ritter Range. Shuteye itself
has a wonderful panorama from the summit, but it's a bit too bold of a 4WD track for my own Toyota 4WD, at least the last 2 miles. Nice hike with kids in summer if there's no lightning in the forecast. An even more remarkable view is from the summit of Madera Peak. Not a long hike from Jackass Lks, but quite a bit of elevation rise. You
can see a lot of Yosemite in one direction, clear into the San Joaquin basin the other
way, plus the whole west side of the Ritter Range of course.
