cheap and works well for both scanning my negatives and printing directly in palladium without having to make 2 different negatives. being a pyro formulation it does a good job at taming the highlights, something needed down here in Texas. additionally, it was developed by our own Sandy King and I get a kick out of saying when I have any problems with it I just email the inventor

    Re: February Portraits

i just got around to printing these from the "jan 23 shoot".

1st one if George. it is an 11x14 contact print (digital camera image). the film was Efke 25....loaner film. so i did not have my times down all that well. a bit under. 18 inch voigtlander petzval lens wide open at about f3.5 shot with strobes.

the second and 3rd are 8x10 contact prints. FP4. i just started using this film (i could not find my trust foma100 that day) a voigtlander 10 inch petzval from 1853 wide open at about f3.2 with strobes.

    Nice Eddie.
The old man is ugly, but the girls are not.
BTW, what paper did you use for the prints?

Tried my 300mm Perscheid @f/6.5 in my lounge. This was painted with light. Nowhere near soft, and no glowing highlights. This is obviously not the way to use this lens... Maybe wide open would work better, who knows unless I try again... Maybe the glowing happens only in normal daylight enveloping the scene and subject? Oh well...

Thank you Seven, I will try again anyway... I have to understand the powers that are hidden behind that hefty perscheid price-tag.

The best glow happens when an important, in focus, highlight is set against a darker tone. The edge of a face, for example, against dark fabric will give a nice glow if your lens has that capability. Its also best to limit the lines to a few graphic strokes in the image. A busy tree branch isn't really enhanced with halos around each twig. But a strong simple shape like a pear can be made to sing with one highlight that shows some glow.
These are opinions, of course, but the point is that its the subject matter and lighting need to considered along with the maximum aperture.
