    3800@Silver Rag 17x22

    Greetings all,

I am starting to use silver rag for my digi printing now.

problem is I got the dirty ink-leaks on each every single 17x22 paper, on one side, one side only. I print 5 papers on the same image to finger it out. No luck.

This is really a royal pain in the ass.

    small paper no problem.

    any insights?

    Cheers

    Andrew

i've seen cleaning sheets in smaller sizes, never looked for larger sizes. I get the same problem with my Epson 3800 at work and it was an issue with my epson 4000 too!

I just had my epson repaired and services... of course my first print through had the same issues.

Is your maintanence cartriage full? Can you wipe out the printer? Is there any curl to the paper on the edges? Did you set the paper thickness wide enough for this paper? I do not know the setting for silver rag, but many papers require a wider platen gap and paper thickness setting.

This is due to the way large sheet paper tends to curl at the edges. Try flattening it by rolling it up in the opposite direction (coating side out), and/or try increasing the platen gap so the head won't strike the edge.

    Robert,

hope not, I don't ant to go through the costumer line again.

    Ed,

my Maintenance cartridge is half way full. I didn't wipe out the printer, don't know how..
I didn't change the settings on the gap/wideness.
but my epson matte paper @ 17x22 never give this problem..

    Gilbert,

I learned a lesson from this.

I used to store 17x22 vertically, then one day when I feed the sheet into my printer, it did went through, but had a hard time, I end up got a print with the image is not parallel to the paper edge, the corners of the paper were all crashed and jammed.

I started to store the paper that size flat on the shelf after that.

I might try to change some settings on the gap see if it helps.

    Cheers

Don't do too much more until you solve it, head strikes are harmful to your printer. I'd show the jpegs to the Museo folks and see if they have a some recommendations. Some of these papers are presenting more and more handling problems and I think they should not only know about it, but provide suggetions to successfully use their papers. Or change them.
Are you using a straight through paper path, from the back? If I recall the 3800 has a way to do that.

    Tyler,

yes, I feed it from the back.
I might try print my old trusty epson matte see if the problem still exists. but the again, switch the ink photo to matte, which is another pain..

    Cheers

OK, just saw that we cross-posted...but still...can you adjust the platen as well as feeding from the alternate methods?
    -----------------------------------
The 3800 has loading via the back, as well as the front. This is recommended for thicker papers.

Isn't Museo Rag a lot thicker than Epson Matte? I think Museo is 15 mil and the Epson is 10.3 mil.

I'd try adjusting the platen, or better yet use one of the other feed methods. DO NOT USE the multiple sheet feed hopper on top of the printer for thicker papers.

Also, have you visited the Epson 3800 FAQ online by that fellow from MIT?

    Paul,

I will go through Mr.Chan's link again tonight..
And you are right, the 17x22 SR is thricker than the Epson's Matte.
Its such a nice day here in Ottawa. I have to get out to do some outdoor activities.

    Cheers

    Andrew.

BTW, Gilbert, I like you work.
