Looking for a Norcal Chamonix Owner to Visit

    Greetings all.

I am strongly considering the purchase of a Chamonix 5x7 with a convertible back. However, I feel it something of a leap to simply go ahead and purchase the camera, sight unseen. Therefore, I seek a current owner of a Chamonix 5x7, or some model similar to it, that might be willing to allow me a viewing, (and gentle fiddling), of their camera. I live in Northern California, an hour North of the Golden Gate, and would be willing to travel a bit. So, if there are any Chamonix users within a reasonable radius, I'd be pleased to know. Any info is much appreciated.

    Hi Michael,

You might want to touch base with Jack Flesher over on the GetDPI forum:

    http://forum.getdpi.com/forum/index.php

Jack was one of the first to own, use and write about the Chamonix.

He's down in Los Altos. Although he's gone digital, it may be worth talking with him.

    Cheers!

Jack has/had the 4x5 though, AFAIK. You can find him hanging out at his own forum: http://forum.getdpi.com/.

    Michael,

I live in Livermore and might be willing to let you get your hands on the 4x5 version. From what I can tell, it's identical in terms of components, only of course the 5x7 is bigger. :-)

You can send me a PM/email if you want some additional thoughts. I've had the 4x5 version for about a year and a half now and still love the camera. It has it's pluses and minuses, but on balance is a great camera and great value for it's price range.

If you want to drive all this way, you're more than welcome. Don't know your timing, but I couldn't really do this for at least a couple weeks.

Drop me a note and let me know.

    Thanks,
    Lon

ps. Checked out your work - Excellent!
