    What is a"vision"?

Sounds to me like you want to find yourself Aaron. This is really the highest and most demanding of life endeavors. Not many are up to the task... but if you will ...start small by doing little things well... and with excellence.Make a good meal...take care of a plant and make it grow...walk down the street with awareness and a sense of immediateness. Learn from all and listen to no one. And after a life time of search and study you may reach your goal.

I'm going back to reading early LFPF which I have done extensively. I persevere.

This thread is interesting to me. Just after 9/11 which changed my life, yet the conversation is very polite, and offers interesting perspectives. Not about 9/11.

I don't know beans about Fred Picker, but one comment stands out.

    Re: What is a"vision"?

A vision to for me is the visualization of something the way you want it in your imagination. For example: Imagine a picture of you in ten years. Who are you with? Where are you? How do you look? What are you wearing? What are your driving? etc. Once you have that picture completed, that is a vision. As it refers to photography, it is the same. You see something the way you see it, then you visualize how it is going to look in your photograph. Can you meet that visualization? Is there enough light? Is there too much shadow? Should you remove that tree? etc. Ansel Adams learned that when he was 14 years old and he went to Yosemite for the first time with a camera that his father gave him. He tried to capture every detail and was disillusioned when he saw the prints that he got from Kodak. Then, he made one of his purposes in photography to make sure the print he got correctly represented what he saw when he took the photo. That is why he was the master printer of his time, the father of the analog photoshop (dodge and burn)!!

Vision is a way of Seeing.

I like to keep things simple, if possible.

    "what is a vision?"
The answer to this question depends upon which genre you are talking about.
Is it to do with supernatural, religious, or possibly how a photographic image will look when completed?

Here are the crib notes... (One or more of these will happen...)

    1/ You find it...

    2/ It finds you...

3/ You set it up until something happens...

You just have to keep working out with the camera and something will happen...

    Have fun!!!

So, someone asks the pirate about his hook for a hand, and the pirate said, "Ah that be when the great whale bit my hand off!" He was next asked about the patch over his eye and he reluctantly answered, "Ah well that be the day after the hook was attached."

    Don't always scratch an itch.
