    Scanner Recommendation

    Hello,

Would appreciate recommendations for a top quality scanner. The Epson V750-M was mentioned. As I am new to scanning my 4X5 positives, what other equipment (besides a computer, very good monitor and color calibration software) would I need.

Also, how inherently talented does one need to be to produce top quality high-res scans (400-600 dpi)? As a card carrying member of the artistically impaired, this is a concern.

    Thank you all.

There is a pile of info on these topics in previous threads.

Have you had a good search for this information yet?

Epson 4990 refurbished or a new Epson 700 or 750. The bundled Epson Scan software is fine for scanning but you need Photoshop to really do anything with your images.

You don't need all the other junk to get started with, just do the Photoshop tutorials.

You might want to do a little reading about scanning. Wayne Fulton's web page has some good material. I bought his book "A Few Scanning Tips" when I first started years ago and it was useful (his "few" scanning tips run about 250 pages).

Of course, one could go for a drum scanner - and go up to the next level. There's been no reply as to what the OP is trying to do, so no one can really say.
