When I was 16 I thought my father the stupidest man in the world; when I reached 21, I was astounded by how much he had learned in just 5 years!

I like this presentation lordmint.
take an EXTRA, typical 8x10 darkslide(just the slide, not the holder, and also:same type as the slides in your film holders). Measure just under 1/2 the width(short dimension) of the slide. Cut length-wise. Here's my procedure in the field for such use:
1. compose picture(I've marked my g/g accordingly to see where the slide will 'cut' the picture.
2. Close/cock lens
3. Take meter reading
4. Transfer meter reading to shutter speed/aperture on lens
5. Insert film holder
6. Remove dark slide
7. Replace darkslide with "1/2"(4x10) slide, in appropriate place for covering the right side of the sheet to be exposed(simply flip the slide to cover other side)
8. Shoot picture
9. Remove 4x10("1/2") slide and replace with full darkslide
10. Remove holder from camera, and x-fer to holder bag. Record exposure/notes,etc...
and go on your merry way
looks like a lot, but once done a few times, it goes by all together in about 30-40 seconds, if the light hasn't changed, subject is standing still, etc....

If anyone in Portland is interested, the show will be up from 1 April - 8 May at Lewis & Clark College.
FWIW Many backs have a slot where you can place a piece of black cardboard in front of the ground glass to accomplish the same result as cutting a slide in half. My Deardorff has them going both ways, so with a couple of pieces of cardboard, i have a 4x10 & 5x8 capability.
