do i have to check my chamonix in?

    hi,
i'm planning to travel with ryanair (european low cost) soon and i'd like to know if it's ok to have a view camera bag has a hand luggage (camera + lens + few holders).
I know the tripod is forbiden, but i was wandering about the rest of the kit...

As long as it meets the carry-on requirements (size and weight) it won't be a problem.

    You hope!

The only problem I could foresee is the glass on the screen

In the US I have never had a problem with bringing a 4x5 (including the Chamonix) as carryon.

But, you never had to fly Ryanair; that's a whole different game.

Why not ask Ryanair or a travel agent? Luggage and carry-on rules for individual carriers are normally easily found on each airlines web site.

With Ryanair, there's company policy and then there's the interpretation of whoever you get to check you in.

Ryanair are like no other airline when it comes to humiliating their "passengers"

Then no one here can give a corect answer. So the OP should plan on sending it as checked baggage and be prepared to carry it on board if they permit. Otherwise if it has to go checked the OP might not have it properly packaged for a trip as baggage.

And you haven't flown some of the feeder lines in the USA apparently. How about an 8 hour flight from JFK in New York City to Logan in Boston last year? 7 + hours on the tarmac, loaded and unloaded on the craft twice, told flight was cancelled just before the flight reboarded. Two trips past security, airline ran out of cups, water, soft drinks, hard drinks and snacks. Also ran out of toilet paper.

But then, this was a Delta flight so perhaps it was to be expected.

The drive time from NYC to Logan is 5 hours so the 45 minute scheduled flight took almost as long as driving to and from Boston!

Driving point to point from Boston to New York or vice versa is just as fast as flying when you consider to and from the airport, checkin, wait time and flight time. In fact driving is usually faster even with no plane delays. And driving has no reasonable baggage limits and no photo gear hassle and uncertainty.

In fact my last plane trip from Austin to Chicago took the same time as my last car trip - I was delayed overnite. Air travel is becoming obsolete.

The difference between Delta and Ryanair is that Delta pretends like they care about the passenger, although they really don't. Ryanair is more honest and let you know that they really don't care about you.

    I won't be flying either.
