It’s a combination of DIY, home made stuff and used bought gear. Besides a few process lenses and the developing tanks and — trays, nothing is really new. I hate to see people dumping perfect working and useful stuff. I like to dismantle and to overhaul these things and making them work as like they are new, if possible.
I always take good care of the developing reels, the SS ones are prone to deforming and then loading them is a hell! Plastic ones can become sticky due to dried on Agepon or Sistan. A well treated and developed negative is the beginning of a good print, but it is one of the most delicate stages of the whole process.
There are two darkrooms as the Colenta has his own title one. For the Colenta, water management is important as it warms the water and additionally mixes hot and cold water to keep the 90 l water-jacket on a good level and at a right temperature, particularly valuable for E-6 processing. An IR viewing system is nice to have.
There is some room for retouching and finishing to.
I am very lucky, and happy, to have ‚found’ the right house to put all this in… Actually, it is a former 19th century piano manufacture, hidden in the middle of a house block.
