Re: I have found the bottom

Here I uploaded a comparison so you can see a scan of the original print versus the improved print. Hopefully you can see at this size that there is no grain in the old one because it was out of focus. Now the print is sharp enough to show the film grain. I think the image is pretty sharp but I can imagine it could probably be slightly sharper, but with this graininess of film, I think it's pretty good.

No. You need to understand that the fresnel does not simply move the ground glass back by its thickness. It also changes the plane of focus by a distance that is NOT the same as its thickness. According to post #9 in the thread http://www.largeformatphotography.in...ad.php?t=49328, a fresnel will shift focus rearward by an amount roughly equivalent to 1/3 of its thickness. You can't simply meaure this shift, even with the best calipers.

But it appears that you found the problem elsewhere (the enlarger). Just keep the above in mind if you ever want to remove the fresnel and replace the ground glass.

Oh, I will keep that in mind then. That makes sense. I will probably leave everything alone for now. If I do remove the fresnel and replace it with plain ground glass, though, I will be sure to measure, and not just shim the ground glass so that it's back where it was before.

I'm pretty sure what is being said is that the GG will not be in the same place.

BTW, very nice improvement in sharpness.
