    Diane,
Why the question? But yes I take mine - but not with the family because we don't do beach holidays. I take it to make pictures.
    Steve,
Because although I am going there to take a pt/pd printing workshop, I have a full day beforehand that I can get out with a nice, relaxing LF camera. I wasn't sure if it was worth the cost of taking the tripod and paying to check the bags. However, the pictures that have been posted here show that it is worth it.

    Yes.

    China Beach, San Francisco.

The model showed up with another photographer to do a bathing suit shoot - I thought the weather was a bit cold for that kind of activity - and I though it was a bit 'rammy' of the other photographer to direct his model to walk between me and my subject.

    Diane,
Go for it. There's bound to be a wealth of subject matter there, wherever there is.
If you take a look on my website you'll find numerous examples of shoreline images in b&w in three of my gallery pages. Perhaps some of them may fire you up:

Diane, beaches are wonderful, lots of things to be found there… I still need to scan the print of a nice shot I took on that very beach of a "pretty" jaw I found: either of a wolf, or of some *huge* dog. (Of course, that jaw then entered my collection of "things found on the beach" which encompasses lots of other smaller or bigger items… I really should spend some time and shoot them all, some day…)

Thanks Steve! You have some great images there (and I only browsed through the first gallery).

Nothin' to photograph at the beach...

Extend the bottom legs of your pod before you get to the sand -- this will help keep sand out of the bottom leg joints. Enjoy!

    Daniel,

I hope your shot turned out to be ok - but the person who took this one certainly did a good job.
