Very interesting - particularly the bit that he rephotographs his 8x10 chromes on a light box using a Canon DSLR.
He should get rid of the Canon by switching to a Nikon D3X. Grin.
That's some of his best work, his early Photoshop experiments were pretty scary.
Well, *most* early Photoshop experiments were pretty scary. But Kirkland was an early adopter- I was at the Maine Workshops in '91, and we visited the brand-new "Kodak Center for Creative Imaging across town; (boy is there a story behind that fiasco) and his Hollywood portraits were on display there. Can't remember much about what they looked like though.. we were at CCI to learn lighting interiors, if I remember.
This makes me wonder how many people are using 8x10 for commercial portrait shoots on this forum. In Kirkland's case, there's some momentum there with famous people and the according budget. I've only pulled it out once so far with a paying customer, since I'm still in the process of developing confidence with the procedures. Are there many out there using these for paid sittings?
