    Cool Fujinon-W lens weights

It's a slow hot Sunday morning so I put my view camera lenses on Lisa's digital kitchen scale.

Fujinon-W 1:5.6/125mm 46mm filter ring: 198g. Exactly what the brochures say.
Fujinon-W 1:6.3/250mm 67mm filter ring: 608g. Say what? That's 225g + or - more than the weights listed on the internet.
Nikkor-W 1;5.6/180mm 67 mm filter ring: 384g. In line with the listed weights for the Fujinon-W 250mm lens.

Are the brochures that far off? Do I have a little known lens? I measured the infinity focus lens board to film holder distance for the 250mm and it was approximately 9". Not the 10" I was expecting. That is actually good news. I have a Speed Graphic with 13" bellows so the 250mm Fuji lens will work ok on it.

I'm not complaining. It's just curious.

Fuji has several 250mm lenses, there must be a typo in your reference.

    Wayne,

Are you comparing the specs, for the F6.7 250W or for the f6.3 250W? They are different. Also, the specs. for the f6.3 250 CM-W's are different from the 250W's.

There are three models of the Fuji 250.

    Re: Fujinon-W lens weights

I can only find one fact: The weight of my lenses. Anything found on Al Gore's internet is suspect. YMMV.

There is precious little information available. Not one of the listed weights for ANY Fuji 250mm lens comes within 100g of what my scale says. Most of the sources list weights in the mid-300g range for Fuji 250mm lenses. Clear as mud?

I've seen the specs listed online get things mixed up between the Fujinon-W 250/6.3 and the 250/6.7 before. I'd imagine there's also some variation depending on whether the lens is mounted in a Seiko or a Copal shutter (and also the version of the Copal shutter.) My 250/6.3 weighs in at around 609g.

Also, the weight listed in this 1988 Fujinon lens catalog for the NWS 250/6.3 in Copal #1 is 590g. That is pretty close to the actual weight- http://gregwphoto.com/fujinonCat_1988.pdf

    Re: Fujinon-W lens weights

Thank you! I had not seen that catalog before. I'm not a crazy person afterall. Our lenses are 1 gram apart and only 18 grams over the catalog specs. My Copal 1 shutter is the silver shutter speed ring version. It matches my 125.

It would have been nice if Fuji had labeled their lenses to match the catalog nomenclature. How much trouble would it have been to write NWS instead of just a W?

No worries. Nice lens. Nice price. I'm happy.

Actually there are 5 250mm models.

The original the 250mm WS, then the single coat W, the coated W, the NWS, finally the CMW.

There are actually 7 models if you count the original Fujinar 250mm and the Soft Focus.

    Blumine,

You forgot the barrel mounted, single coated Fuji f4.5 250.

Adding to your count, that would make a total of eight models of the Fuji 250.

Perhaps Fuji made an enlarging lens in the 250 focal length.

That would make a total of nine 250's.
