Hi Erik

Acutally the digital files were made to look like what you see, there is the obvious gum dumbing down of colours but what you see in these prints are a good representation of the files...This photographer
was using small, small digital camera and has applied apps to make them look like this.

the Portraits are going to be at the Photrio Symposium as a event show, those prints are all enlarger based Lith prints, the negatives were very nasty.

Salted paper print from collodion negative, ca. 3.5x4.5":


Poor boy collodion on glass, redeveloped with additional silver after iodine tincture bleach.
Salted paper with NaCl on Schut Simili Japon paper. Briefly (ca. 1 minute) selenium toned in very dilute (ca. 1+200) toner. 'Heat toned' and flattened by ironing the dry print between paper.
Digital photograph from print. Tonal transitions in the actual print are considerably smoother than in this crude digitization and the tone is slightly cooler in reality.

That's excellent Koraks! how did you mask the edges to get a straight line?

Thanks! Actually, the masking is something I still need to figure out. The best way I found up to this point is to cut a mask from a material that has the same thickness as the plate or the film used with tinfoil glued onto it. Tinfoil blocks light phenomenally well. The issue with glass plates is that I haven't found a proper base for the mask yet; I need to find something that is exactly as thick as the glass I use. For this print, I used a heavy paper with tinfoil pasted onto it, with a rectangle cut from the paper in which the glass plate fits tightly, and a slightly smaller rectangle cut from the foil so that the edges of the foil mask sit on the edges of the glass plate. This ensures good contact between the mask, the plate and the printing paper. The drawback is that the overlapping edges of the foil are prone to folding and tearing, rendering the mask useless after a few prints. So I'm going to look for some base material for the mask of the right thickness. I may also give rubylith instead of tinfoil a try, but I fear that rubylith won't block the light as well as tinfoil, which is an issue with printing processes with very long exposure times like salted paper and carbon transfer.
