Printing upper tonal values, especially broad areas, is indeed one of the biggest challenges of carbon printing. But I think it may be easier to do with digital negatives than with continuous tone film negatives. On the other hand, making high quality digital negatives, especially one well-tailored for carbon printing, is also quite a challenge.

Attached is a recent carbon print that has a lot of high values, but was relatively easy to print, because there are no broad even tones.

Thanks, Andrej! In few weeks, I am going to attempt the real thing - copper plate photogravure! Wish me luck!

"Floral Hall, Red Mile, Lexington, KY"
A carbon print on sized Saunders Waterford paper

Just before Christmas, I had one of my better glop pouring sessions.
The image is from one of the tissues.
Original image was captured on expired 5x7 FP4 with Fuji 250mm 6.7 lens.
The image was scanned and a dig neg printed on Pictorico OHP transparency.
Not up to the standard of the Masters (TT, Sandy, Jim, Vaughn etc) but still striving...

    Nice image,
    I like carbon printing too.
Is the yellow color from left over bichromate in the paper turning yellow or something else?

    Thanks Bert!
That is probably from using gloxal to harden the gelatin I used to size the WC paper.
