My first roll film camera had interchangable lenses on those stupidly large nose cones (DaYi pano camera). I'd decided to travel 3 hours to the premier National Park in my area and pinged off 5 or 6 rolls, not knowing that the screws had to be super tight. Thus, I had banding across all rolls.

Luckily, I'm not anywhere near good enough as a shooter to have lost any keepers, but lesson learned!! I know test the camera/equipment on rubbish shots before getting serious...

All the best for your shots!
Sorry, just noticed this! Thanks, I appreciate the good will and spirit! So far, I haven't let myself get too attached to the intents and expectations with these images (time for the enthusiasm to wear off helps with this). In that way, they really feel more like test shots, or "for fun" shots. And maybe that's all it ever should be, but I do have a small hope that some of them may end up being at least a quarter as delicious as some of the others in this thread!

A lot or work setting-up; but well worth it. Nicely done!

Re: Post your first (LF) shot

I'm just getting into large format photography. Here is my first shot with an eBay Toyo-View 45G on Ilford Delta Film. Scanned at 600 with an Epson 3200 photo scanner.

My later shots have been a little better focused (and level:-). My primary interest is historic preservation and my goal is to learn to produce HABS/HAER quality photos of some of the few remaining historic buildings in my area of Florida.

This is the original Community House in Melbourne Village, Florida, adapted from a WWII barracks. The building is interesting because of the window structure. The sash windows are a later addition. The original windows are the narrow 24"x36" windows near the eaves. Most of these buildings had normal double hung sash windows. Inside, the building has a gorgeous oak floor that appears to be original. Most such temporary buildings had pine floors.

    Comments more than welcome.

Thumbs up Re: Post your first (LF) shot

First things first. . . level the tripod & camera. That house is horizontally challenged. Those gorgeous oak floors won't hold a chickpea in one place! And you're also correct about the focus. . .

I'd give more to the tops of the trees and less foreground, or just crop the larger trees and foreground out altogether.

    My opinion only, mind you.

Good job - keep the pics coming!
Are we truly creative, or simply too lethargic to become pedestrian?
