How should I expose for back-lit flower

Good afternoon.

I'm using a single mono light strobe with barn doors to back-light a flower/plant.

How should I meter this situation (I point the light meter directly at the flash)? Over expose by a stop? by two stops???

Unless you want a silhouette effect, you need to give ample exposure to pick up details in the flower.

Perhaps you can use a white reflector to bounce the light back onto the front of the flower.

Otherwise, take a flash meter reading off of the front of the flower, open up 2 stops, bracket your exposure, and hope for the best.
