Areas To Photograph - Vicinity Of Madison, Wisconsin

I'm going to be staying about 30 miles from Madison, Wisconsin for a week or so in mid-May. If anyone has suggestions for things or areas to photograph within roughly a 1 - 2 hour one-way drive from Madison I'd appreciate hearing from you. I'm mainly interested in landscape and architecture. Thanks.

    Hello Brian,

You could check out Devil's Lake State Park near Baraboo. Very cool red quartzite rock formations partially covered in lichens, deep blue lake. Also, the Wisconsin River valley nearby is quite hilly and scenic.

I love your quote...I laughed out loud when I read it.

Love Oregon also. I'm heading back out to Oregon in June. I used to live in Rockaway Beach.

Something else of interest in Baraboo...
The Ringling Brothers Circus world museum. Crazy stuff there. Check it out.

I really like the Yerkes Observatory for its architecture. The telescope inside is also very cool to shoot. It's an easy drive from Madison.

The interior of the state capitol building downtown and the more modern interior of the nearby art museum are good.

If it's not too far, Starved Rock State Park in Illinois, http://dnr.state.il.us/LANDS/LANDMGT...tarve/park.htm has always been a favorite of mine in that part of the state.

Thanks for the information, those all sound like places worth checking out which I'll do.

    Brian,
Lots of interesting possibilities. Most of the Midwest work on my website (www.randylarsonphotography.com) is within two hours of Madison. For starters, the Baraboo Hills including Baxter's Hollow. The Wisconsin River near Spring Green and Lone Rock. The hills and valleys of Iowa county west of Madison. Numerous beautiful country churches. Starved Rock is about 2.5 hours south-no need to go there because we have more opportunities close by. Email me if you want any more specific info.
