New to LF from NW Ontario

In about two weeks I should have my very first LF camera, a Anniversary Speed graphic (4x5).

Looking forward to using LF and seeing those great negatives. I'll be shooting b&w only as there is no where to develop 4x5 locally so I have to develop the negatives myself in my darkroom.

Last November I moved back to film with a variety of cameras, 35mm and 120mm and developing my own film. This was the first time I developed my own negatives and I've really enjoyed the experience and am looking forward to working with the 4x5 negatives.

To start I plan on tray developing as I dont have a proper tank/reel for those large negatives as money is in short supply.

I'm sure I will be back with lots of questions as I am a total noobie when it comes to LF.

Looking forward to the new challenges that LF will provide. I'm also really looking forward to seeing those 4x5 negatives!

    Derek

Thanks Vinny - I just found this site the other day. And with this 4x5 camera I really hope to get out there this summer to explore it more and hopefully gets some great photos. Meaning I need to get out of town more often!

Don't feel bad about developing in a trays. Nothing wrong with that. A lot of people here do that.

    Andrew:

It seems at least for now that its the smart way to go - I have trays already so why not use them. It will save me some money. I dont mind being in the dark so not a big deal. If I have great, consistent results I will stick with trays.

    Dave:

D'oh! Never thought of that! Im not looking forward to the insects Im sure to run into out here. Builds character though, right? And thanks for the welcome!

Lets not forget those mosquito's - large enough to carry off small animals.

Trays are the most economical way to go. They will also allow you to play around with agitation. As long as you keep your warm fingers out of the solution, and the room temp is close to your developing temperature, you'll be fine. I stick my developing tray in a larger tray with tempered water if the room is cold. Seems to work. I too, don't mind standing in the dark. Got the music turned up to classic rock.

You make a good point Andrew.

I'm looking forward to my first try at tray developing. Im thinking the thrill I hope to get will be like the first time I developed a roll of 35mm of b&w film back in November.

Camera is on the way, and film has been ordered.
