Originally they planned to drive across the bering straits. When that proved impossible they floated from San Francisco to Japan, and then from the other side of Japan to Siberia. Quite a story!

Jim, the second shot really is great. Somewhere I have something similar (but not quite as good, and taken on MF). The first one, however, is the one I keep coming back to. It is deceptively simple, almost nothing of substance there, yet, there is something there which captures me...
