Here's the result of a wet plate demonstration with a school photography group. Kids have an amazing capacity to learn this stuff...so much better than adults sometimes

8x10 black acrylic ambrotype shot with a Holmes Booth Hayden petzval. I love how the highlights perform with this lens...the hair looks as though it was shot with an eidoscope.

Some really cool shots in this thread. Reading it could be dangerous. I'm already thinking, "I've got to get me one o' dem things..."

After the basement buildout which includes the darkroom, after a couple more lenses for the Mamiya 645, and after upgrading the old Linhof. But...eventually...

@Craig T - great capture! Indoor with a light bank I'm guessing? Love your work, you must be meticulously clean with your chemistry.

@rpalm - Thanks! I do indeed want to capture more of her and my son. My son seems intrigued at having pictures that will outlast him. He just doesn't like to sit... yet.

Full-size mannequin with an odd sheep's head--night-time storefront of a costume shop in Santa Barbara, California. Used a 6"/f4 unmarked Darlot-ish Gem petzval on a Speed Graphic--outdated 4x5 TXP and tinted in PS. (Reminder to self: don't chop off hands!)

Leigh, I'll probably have nightmares from that... Are you a Donnie Darko fan by chance?

    Ramiro,

What a great example of the so-called "3D effect" of Petzval lenses. The table and chairs really 'pop' out of the image.
