Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?

Amicalola river at Hwy 53. This became a study of curves and lines, stillness and motion, and the color of water. I had visited this spot a couple of times before but the water was too high and did not give the feeling of falling over the rocks. While I waited for the sun to rise a bit I studied the relationships of the movement of the water vs the stillness of the bridge and the curves of the arches vs the curved lines in the water falls. The trees above me were swaying in a nice breeze so I knew I would have movement in the leaves with a long exposure. In the final print I minimized the top section because the motion in the leaves were a distration. I also rotated the image a bit so that the horizon is more level even though the river does drop down hill on the opposite side, but this led to the bridge columns not being perpendicular.
This is a B&W scan of the print on ilford MGFB Warmtone with a few artifacts from the scanner that are not in the print.

The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

This is a view through a mangrove path in Robinson Preserve, a park in my home town. 4x5 on aluminum, shot with a 360. Aside from the overdevelopment, I'm kind of bummed that I didn't think to check the focus again after prepping the plate and before shooting. Originally I had both the tower and part of the walkway in focus, but I think the front standard tilted down a little under the weight of the lens while I was away from the camera.

Joseph Brunjes - great waterfall and rocks image. The people give it a sense of scale and the tonality, angles, and shapes keep the eyes exploring the image. Well seen and captured.
Reinhold Schable - I have driven across that bridge from North to south and always thought to myself that would be a neat town to photograph but never had the time. Your images make me want to visit again.
Bieber - nice composition even if not perfectly focused, the medium and its imperfections work together to form something more impressionistic.

You can get some really good shots up in the tower facing towards i275 bridge. Get out there early during the winter for a sunrise. Nice composition on the shot.
