    I only do B&W and for 40 years I did everything myself (chemicals included).
    A lab never touched any of my films or prints.

    I develop, scan and print all of my B&W.
    I have a lab develop Color, then I scan and print.

    You left me out of the choices. I have a lab develop my transparencies, then I scan and digitally process. I do small prints (8x10) but take the digital files back to the lab for real prints.

    I turned a buckle, unzip the flaps, pulled it out , jerk it around, slap some knobs ,,, then the doorbell rings and it's the UPS guy delivering my camera from repairshop

    No, "optical print" is perfectly appropriate. It covers both contacts and enlargements. No need to "bin" ("trash" for those who speak American rather than British english) it.
