    California desert

Simple question for anybody who knows: are there any restrictions on driving from Twentynine Palms to Amboy? The road connecting the two passes right by (and perhaps even through) a marine base, and I'm wondering if one can freely travel north on that road to go to Mojave National Preserve. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Amboy Road is a public road. No problem... it goes around the base.

If you are planning this trip during the next couple of months, be prepared for very cold weather, including the possibility of snow. The Upper Desert can be brutal in the winter if you are not prepared for it.

I drove that route years ago with no problem, but I was going from Amboy to Twentynine Palms. It might be a problem going the other way...

For a good time: When you see a place called "the Palms," (on Amboy) stop, pull into the parking lot, go in, and have a few drinks.

If you got a little extra money, the town may still be up for sale as it was in the 90´s
    Enjoy.
