Thread: Jobo 2551, How Much?

    Jobo 2551, How Much?

How much developer, etc. will it take to do 4x5 film in a jobo 2551 tank?

I'm up-sizing all my developer bottles from the 1 liter bottles that used to be sufficient for my 120/135 developing needs.

According to the catalog, 560ml min. will cover.
My catalog is older and is for is for the old 2509 reels but it should be identical for the newer reels.

My 2551 has this printed on the side, and it is indeed 560ml for two of the 4x5 reels.

Make sure that you have enough developer for the area of film in the tank. For that reason and ease of measuring dilutions, I round up to 800ml. Too much developer is far better than too little.

    Here's a trick I figured out with the 2551:
If you only loading film on one reel, place an empty reel in the bottom. Fill the tank holding it vertical. The developer goes down the tube, rises up and stays below the top of the empty reel. It's very easy and fast to lay the tank on my Uniroller and hit the timer start switch. I dump the developer with 30 seconds left. Fill with the same volume of water. When the timer buzzes, I put the tank on the roller.

    Good luck!
