    Hello from the Alberta Rockies

I am starting my journey into film and need information and advice about large format photography. I started my photography career just under 3 years ago so my experience has been totally digital both medium format H1 with a digi back and DSLR (Nikon) ( I know a H1 with a digi back is a DSLR but there is a difference).

My quest with large format is 2 fold, one is to just slow down and really think a shot through. Resolution is my other consideration. Even with RED about to release the Epic 214 at 280mb it still can not compare to a 4x5. Plus you can shoot a lot of film for the price of that future camera!
My work is fine art and stock. Both seem to keep me in food and gear. My preference is fine art abstract.
I look forward to learning all this board has to offer!

PS: I am also a keen fly fisherman.

    Welcome Graham!
Sounds like you you're ready for some large format therapy. You live in a wonderful area for fishing, photographing and skiing! I thought seriously of moving to BC about eight years ago. Does Pat Morrow live in Canmore?

    Hello Graham,

    Welcome.

Canmore is beautiful anytime of year, and that is said from my current prairie view Edmonton. Good luck in your journey in LF, and more importantly, in your art making (the reason this forum exists).
    Respectfully,

    Peter.

Thank you for such a warm welcome to the group. Looks like I am not the only one from Alberta! Yes Pat Morrow still lives here as far as I know. Do not know him personally but certainly know of him!
I think MF will be a great and interesting journey. Now to try to figure out what I actually need to buy for equipment!

    Cheers,
    Graham

Look no further than the homepage of this site to get started

    http://www.largeformatphotography.info/

I spent about six months reading before buying my gear so don't worry if you feel a little information overload. Google is your friend, as is the search feature in the toolbar on this site. It's good to do a search first for many general questions you have as you may find a lot more information in the archives faster than people will post answers. I was searching this site earlier and it's a great resource.

Have Fun! (from a former Banffite)
