Thanks. I know there must be several big volcanic necks around that are spectacular but Shiprock is surely one of the most beautiful. I've spent a lot of time, usually being dropped off and sleeping up on the rock somewhere, over the years. You have to be careful but always worth the risk for the experience, plus photographs. Still a couple of nooks I haven't gotten into and I've never been on top, though thousands of climbers have. The climbers know it in ways the rest of us only dream about. If you make a trip I'd be happy to send you my map of favorite places.

Thanks for the compliment. Yes, it's one of my favorite waterfalls, definitely one of the most scenic in California. This one is especially nice because it flows year round at a consistent rate, as it's main source stems from an underground spring.

It’s also quite accessible, with a parking lot very close to the trailhead and the highest viewpoint.

South Dike at Shiprock just before sunrise on a very hazy morning. Slept up on a nearly flat split-topped boulder. Packrats and wind overnight, but very still at dawn. 190 Ektar Wide-field.

Robert, I like this composition - the rough backbone exposed in contrast to the soft weathered country area. By the way, similar bony structures can be found on the flanks of the Spanish Peaks south of Great Dunes Nat. Monument. If you have a chance check that area out.
