The sandflies; Not too bad -- tho I remember black clouds of them swarming in front of my tent -- especially on Stewerts Island! But never any worse than some of the experiences I have had with mossies in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. And when a sandfly bites, one usually has the satisfaction of killing it -- not as sneaky as the mossies!

Very cool. We have a very similar fort near Astoria, Oregon, that is in much worse repair. Nice overall shot showing the surrounding environment. It's a shame that these remnants of past military outposts are crumbling, but maybe it's for the best.
