    Re: Large Format Landscapes

Decided to give the Verito another try - had some issues with the lensboard I was using and had light leaks, and finally modded it and found a new retaining ring that fit. Anyway, just trying out some soft-focus landscape which I think might be interesting in some situations.

Wider view of the above, with my Nikkor 90mm f/8, as a comparison:

Bryan, even though Ansel Adams in his youth, as did other to-be-famous photographers, make some fuzzygraphs, I prefer the second photo. The horizontal format helped the composition, too.

Yeah, the focal length of the Verito makes it difficult for me to get the wide-angle images I usually gravitate towards. I like the way the Verito rendered the background, sunlit foliage, but not so much the water in the foreground, which is probably a product of the light cutting across the scene. I shot a color image of this though that I am interested in seeing. From what little I've done I am liking the look of color soft-focus more than b&w.

I also shot an image in more diffuse, flat light and it looks terrible with the soft focus. There's gotta be highlights or contrast for the soft-focus to work, for me.

Here's one more image with the Verito, of the sunset light behind some bare trees. I suppose this really just needed clouds:

Bryan, of the Verito images, I like the second one. It seems to work better with the focal length.

Thanks for the input chassis...definitely need to push some more film through this lens to see what I come up with or if it suits my style.

The first verito is kinda exciting in texture, but it is too complex/detailed to make a soft focus scene. Some of those roots could have made a soft focus photo as it becomes more about composition than detail. Using the long focal length and wide-ish aperture of the verito also lends kindly to using distance as a separator of objects in the photo by means of focus. It will have more DOF than a sharp lens of that length, but you can still use DOF to isolate subject matter. Highlights that are out of focus will also be less realistic which can be good.
