the farm tool probably came from early representations of death, being the "harvester of souls"? In my brief searching around beforehand (getting ideas) I came across a few old depictions of death as a grain/wheat (?) harvester, sometimes having a hand-held sickle, sometimes having the longer 2-handed scythe. Not having a cloak or anything, I guess the cloak and other stuff evolved from that. That original depiction of the grain/wheat harvester may have been derived from a parable or something, in old text? (the bible, or such) That's my guess, but I don't know for sure.

One more comment, the transition from the shroud to the ground is very hard. Could you transition to the ground via an irregular edge or by using a more diaphanous fabric at the bottom?
Daniel, you might also try using double exposure at various ratios, to give the death figure some additional transparency.
I, too, like the last one best.
Great series Daniel. I particularly enjoy images that have symbolic content. I agree with Ralph that multiple exposures may be very effective.
great concept.. i agree about the blurring of the character. maybe you could move him to a more urban setting as well.
keep us posted.
