    Print Washer Question

Just picked up a 11x14 Kostiner print washer. There is a small plastic set screw in the connector nearest to the washer. Does anyone know its purpose? The set screw is seized, leaks badly and I was thinking of sealing it up. Many Thanks

    Re: Print Washer Question

I have the same washer with the same problem...It is another way to regulate water flow. It will allow the water in tank to leak over a few days with mine...but that's fine...keeps the tank cleaner.

I wrapped plumber tape and reinserted...didn't help a lot.

I'd like to find a replacement piece or retro-fit.

    Re: Print Washer Question

That screw is an air regulator. By introducing air at that point it prevents (or reduces) the amount of bubbles that form on the surface of the prints. If you move the paper around occasionally, you probably don't need the aerator.

If the screw leaks, you don't have enough water pressure. The problem with a Kostiner is that it takes a lot of water flow to work properly.

There used to be a theory that the air bubbles helped agitate the water and wash the prints faster. It's long been debunked. The bubbles have little if any effect ... and the only effects measured have been negative. I'd leave the hole closed.

May thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I will plug it.
