    16x18 Protar V

I have some weird thing with protar V lenses, so I follow them anytime I see one. I hate to post something like this, but I'm aghast...

$1100 and still going?!? Really? Is there something extraordinary about this version that I don't know about?

Coverage, coverage, coverage. 20x24 with a bit of movement stopped down. With the current worldwide interest in ULF, I think the snipers should take it over $3K, unless the competing bidders are all broke, which is a real possibility. I know it's out of my price range, and I could really use it to its' max. C'est la vie.

Wow......thanks Tracy! I knew the coverage would be big, but had no idea it could cover 20x24....

Its not really a wide angle lens, its 24" focal length optic if my B+L chart is accurate. A better lens thats cheaper, faster, coated and actually can shoot colour is a 24" Red Dot Artar.

There were 2 possible 16X18 Protar V's oddly. This was the more desirable 110 degree version at 390mm. I think the buyer knew exactly what he was buying. There is a threshold around 11X14 where these go through the roof in value exponentially because there really isn't anything else on earth that will cover these gigantic plates at such a wide angle. Plus a coated one in a viable shutter is just completely unheard of. Tracy had the price spot on.

    Hey "CP"
I have the same B+L chart as Jim, one "16x18" @15.375" FL, and another "16x18" at 24.875" Both covering 22"x27" at small stops. Based on my experience with the Vs, I've felt that table is pretty accurate, and I got at least one of my Zeiss Vs from you.

This lens is puzzling. Being coated suggests very late manufactiure, but being marked 16 X 18 instead of focal length is a much earlier characteristic. The shutter looks comparatively recent. Special order? Coated later? Any ideas?
