    DC in the house

    Hi all,
Chris Usher pointed me this way after asking him about Razzle. I am getting into large-format pinhole right now. No viewcameras just yet, though there might be a Razzle in the future.
Looking forward to the tips, advice and critiques here.
    Cheers,
    Bill.

There are other small manufacturers who will do a fine job with one-off Polaroid conversions, but Dean Jones (Razzledog) has an excellent track record and an excellent reputation. He's a great guy, a class act.

The caution with some home-brewed conversions is whether the modifications that allow a 4x5 back to mount are strong and parallel to the lens. Dean's are. He also has some clever options and back designs.

There is some anti-Razzle disinformation presented by one Polaroid modifier who sells his modifications for premium prices. Ignore it. Dean has many happy customers and he does a first class job.

Remember, these are OLD PLASTIC cameras. It's kind of ridiculous to over-spend on something that was an amateur novelty to begin with.

For that matter, a less expensive option is a clean old Graflex Crown Graphic -- it does exactly the same thing as the Polaroid 110 modified cameras... they are slightly bulkier but also more versatile.

Large format pinhole photography – right up my ally.

If you meet up with the local LF DC group, there is one of us in the mix who makes a very nice one-off camera like the Razzle. He should be how to make mine.

But perhaps we can get you skip all that and go directly to 8x10. Grin.

    Welcome.

    Welcome, Bill.

For pinhole use, you might also consider one of the commercially-available 4x5 pinhole cameras as a less-expensive option to get started.
