    Camera Arts magazine

Is Camera Arts still being published? If so, any opinions about the quality and content?

It was good, but if you go to http://www.cameraarts.com you'll see that it is bankrupt and has stopped operations.

I've had several discussions with the publisher, most of the details of which I cannot discuss, but what I can tell you is that Camera Arts, like Photo-Eye, Emulsion and LensWork are no longer being sold on newsstands. CameraArts and Emulsion have both folded, PhotoEye is now just an online "magazine" and LensWork is only sold in photography stores and via subscription.

If you're looking for other color fine art photography magazines I can recommend:

    Blindspot
    Aperture
    Eyemazing
    Focus

Magazine distribution is a racket. The distributor makes more per issue than the publisher.

Lenswork is an outstanding publication and despite the fact that it is not "sold at newsstands", has an excellent and highly repsonsive subscriptions department, unlike some other photographic publications. As an aside, the owner/editor of Lenswork doesn't seem to spend his time debating politics on specialist online photo forums, but instead seems to direct his efforts at producing a high quality magazine and makes sure that it is in the hands of his subscribers with proactive effort; not reactive bumbling when problems occur.

Looks like Camera Arts is under new ownership and online only.

Good grief. I can only hope that at some point in the future in the interest of honesty and the pursuit of the truth the details of this debacle can be shared so we can all learn from it. The sooner the better as far as I am concerned.....

    Re: Camera Arts magazine

    Michael,

What difference does it really make?

What happened is really no business of ours that is for sure. Private business is private, what right do we have to dig into what did or did not happen to Camera Arts.

As photographers, we either support the magazine or we don't. It looks like not enough people supported the publication so it went out of business and returned to the origional owner who has decided to make it an on line publication. Other than that, I don't think either the former or present owners have any obligation to tell us, or anyone else, what happened.

Here again, we can support the on-line version or not, that is up to us.
