Go early to avoid the crowds; we had the whole place to ourselves from 6:30 to 7:30.

This is super nice. The contrast of the sharp rock detail and smooth water is lovely.

    Re: Post Your Waterfalls

I hiked in to Cattail Falls in Big Bend National Park on Wednesday. I drove 8 hours to get there. I went straight to the trailhead. I took my Chamonix 4x5, a 110mm Schneider-Kreuznach Super-Symmar f5.6 lens, and a bunch of holders, 1/2 of which were loaded with Portra 160 and the other half with Ilford HP5. I made two images with the 4x5. One color and one black and white. The color image is still in the holder. I hiked in the following day and made a few more digital images. I had it to myself on the first day. The second day there were 6 people there. Cattail is normally a sheen of water with a gentle trickle. The desert had a wet August and September.

I also shot video with sound on both days. You can see the difference in flow in less than 24 hours. I've seen video from last week and flow has dropped significantly from then to when I was able to go. I'll link the video below. If that's not cool the mod can dump it. It's not edited. Just two stitched together. I use a monochrome picture style in my DSLR and apparently, for video, WYSIWG. For stills the images revert color.

An oldie (1986). I spent about a week hiking around Lake Waikaremoana, NZ with the 4x5...it was nice to get off the bike occasionally (5 month bicycle tour)! This is Korokoro Falls, a short side trip from the track (trail) around the lake.

4x5, 150mm, Tmax100, 8x10 silver gelatin print. Never made a larger print of it.

If you any other photos of this fall, it will be about the same view -- the rain forest did not allow for any other distant view.
