    $20 milspec 'dorff carrier!

I'm fortunate to have a real hardware store in my town. There are plenty of "Big Box" outfits around but they haven't put all the little guys out of business yet.

My loyalty to this independent concern paid off nicely the other day. In one corner of the store was a pile of cardboard boxes marked:

    case, miltary water can

the NSN is 7240-01-119-4956 and the vendor is Delco Ind. Textile Corp. of Riverside NJ and is addressed to the Transportation Officer at Pueblo Army Depot.

What this beauty is is a heavily insulated (cushioned) canvas cooler with a zippered top and shoulder strap.
It is tan in color (Ansel liked his camera cases to be light colored IIRC to reflect heat)
It is meant to hold a potable water can and protect the contents from the desert heat.
It also holds an 8x10 Deardorff with a lens on board, four film holders, light meter, loupe, my modest filter kit (a Lee gel snap with 4 polyester filters) small note book and dark cloth! $19.99!

If you want one, check with your local hardware shop or army-navy surplus store.

Oh yeah, I'd like to add a big "Thank You" to the Transportation Officer at Pueblo Army Depot!

    Henry,
My bride has a digital camera and I can take a picture of this set up but how do I post it?

Right after John posted, I placed a bid on one and won it for a couple of bucks. I've been wrapping my camera in a fleece jacket and putting it in a duffle or a old rolling suitcase. My dorf awaits its new home. I'll post a few pics with camera in place once it comes.

I'm a big fan of surplus military gear, it's usually very cheap and very durable! I don't know how they would travel to other countries though, if it looked like military gear.

$23 bucks for shipping UPS ground? Talk about overcharging on shipping. That's a 15 pound charge cost from UPS.

I thought the same on shipping, or I would have ordered one last night. That's a bit of a rip off. I emailed the seller about a more realistic price, but haven't heard back yet.

My only thought is it might be in a very large GI box.

The seller I got mine from only charges $10 shipping. Just do a search on military surplus insulated case.
