    Praus Productions

Thinking about using these guys for 8x10 B&W and C-41. I live in NYC but quality in NYC labs these days are blah at best. Thanks!!

He's a friend of mine so I am biased but Edgar has been around for 25 years and does a lot of the testing/consulting for Kodak and RIT. He installed a Refrema for C41 a few months ago, which is really nice. And he's been doing my B&W film very consistently and cleanly since I shut my darkroom down in the 90s. Most of his business is mail order -- the other pro labs in Rochester have all closed. The best part is you can just call him up and talk to him or Mike and be speaking with the person doing your work, not a customer service representative. They are not the cheapest but probably more than competitive w NYC prices.

I've been sending film to him for a couple of years, based on Frank's recommendation, and I've found them to be very professional and attentive to my inquiries, special requests etc. They are first rate.
    Thanks,

    Re: Praus Productions

I have never talked with Edgar but Mike spent a lot of time with me last autumn when I was trying to figure out exposure issues with my film. He figured out how much to adjust the development time to get the exposure correct with my Velvia and Provia. He did several custom runs and didn't charge any extra. Turns out my light meter wasn't linear but that is all taken care of now. My local lab is shutting down at the end of the month and I will send all my E6 to Praus. Highly recommended.
