For variety of reasons, many people mat and frame all their photos the same. Even if it's tradition, it may not be the best way to treat every image, especially images in color.
This sort of tool allows you to visualize different framing and matting options (not just cropping), and applies not only to photos, but any image file: a watercolor, a sketch... even an old hanging textile or sand painting.
How would this image piece look, with a frame made of green stressed bamboo, or plain gun-metal ? A blue plastic frame and a red mat for my photo of a blue car ? Two different colored mats ? How wide should the mat be ? How wide should I make the frame ? ... etc.
If tradition teaches us to mat and frame them all uniformly, then lovely. On the other hand, if you want to explore an infinity of variations, then this sort of tool will serve as your art teacher.
