Re: Foto3 contest and traditional/conceptual divide

The title of this thread I find puzzling because at this point in time there is no divide. Conceptual art is all there is in the art community. They own the land, water, and air, and traditional art has no place period. Traditional photography is ridiculed and shunned, and I am pissed. Can any one out there list at serious photographic competition where a traditional form of photography took the prize.

you could always start your own contest, be your own judge, grade your own material, and drink to the winner ... that's what I do every night ...

Let me rephrase my last request. Can anyone out there list a serious competition where the prize was NOT awarded to a conceptual photographer.

Sierra Club had one about 10 years ago. They may still do it. Any subscribers know?

Stephen, You don't know that the Foto3 Contest was limited to 'conceptual art,' With only one scan of a Xerox of one of the 27 awards given there is no way to label the contest anything other than mysterious.

i've been scrubbing around for a link to all the winners too, but I can't track one down. Is it in the subscriber's section of the VC magazine site?

In any case, with all those awardees, I'm sure there's quite a lot of variety there, and if there were a winner's gallery on the web somewhere, or at least a list of names and perhaps some website links, many people would be encouraged to participate in next year's contest, if there is one.

What is a serious competition Stephen? I thought all photographs are conceptual to one degree or another.

"Conceptual art" is just the current tradition.

But what do I know? I practice straight pictorialism...
