I just curious how long it will take you to clear this agenda from your plate ... who died and left the forum in your name?

Sometime this forum reminds me of those small villages in SOuthern Italy where everybody claim to knows a lot about everybody else, or so they think, and spent their time gossiping and spitting venom in all directions.
You guys have great looking cameras and the sharpest lenses in the world or the swirliest brass lenses.
Go out and take pictures instead, so that then you can submit them to reputable photographic contests.

Re: Foto 3 Secret Photography Contest

We will never cross the Great Divide because the entries have been returned. Insufficient prints are available to reveal judging bias between Conceptual and Traditional. No one will ever know ...

When I signed up for the conference I was looking forward to the photo exhibits listed
on page 58 of the March/April issue of View Camera:
o An Exhibition of work submitted by Conference Participants.
o An Exhibition of work by Conference Workshop leaders and presenters.
o An Exhibition of the finalists and winners of the Foto 3-2008 Competition.
o An Aperture Traveling Exhibit reGeneration: 30 Photographers of Tomorrow.
These were the same exhibits that Ted Harris had outlined to me last fall while he was competition chairman. (see post #100)

At the conference, however, we were informed that was no Competition Exhibit because the entries had all been returned (huh?) but during the final day conference participants would be presenting their work in the ballroom. That was all there was for exhibits! No exhibit for Workshop Leaders and Presenters nor the Aperture Traveling Exhibit.

Obviously under Steve's control the exhibits, and in particular the competition awards, have morphed into something more vague and obscure from what was printed in View Camera. As things unravel I understand Ted Harris' dissatisfaction and desire to disassociate himself with the competition and exhibits.

    The fallout:
o None of the competition entrants had their prints exhibited in public .
o To date, only one winner has been identified. (the rest are secret, even to the winners, only to be revealed in a future issue of View Camera)
o An opportunity has been missed to get good publicity for LF-quality prints.

    Once,

Unless you report the posts properly, it is quite possible we will never see them. We can't read every post.
    Thanks,

Re: Foto3 contest and traditional/conceptual divide

I assume many of the disgruntled here submitted prints and have genuine concerns. So I only moderated some of the posts which IMO were of a clear personal attack vein. That is a hard call in some circumstances. I'm sure some will not be happy with my judgment calls. I'm going to close this until Mr Simmons has an opportunity to respond.
    Thanks,
    Kirk
