Yes I do it my self (exept the bellow, I'll make a new one next summer)
So, My first job was Cabinet Maker French varnish maker and Violin and bow maker).
Varnish is french varnish (Vernis au tampon, in french).
For the Brass I used a Ultrasonic engin and after a polish engin (find in a special shop for gunner and bullets).
Like you I do not make varnish on brass parts
I made too the replica case, like Air Force case in 1930.

I spent some time with a tape measure and made a crude scale to use my MPP Mk8 hand-held with my 90mm Super Angulon by focussing on the ground glass and double checking the distances..

The wire frame finder is originally from an MPP made for the military.

Can anyone recommend a lens hood?

Well, I just did some very thin sand paper job on the wooden parts and varnished it again. The most complicated was to disassemble it and take away all the dirt from the brass parts, again with very thin sand paper. I believe this camera must be, at least, 70 years old. The brass parts were completely black. This camera was used as an enlarger for many years.
I did not varnished the brass parts, because I like the natural look of it, even if it is a bit oxyded but, often, I have to clean it again with a soft polish liquid.

Ok, so just a very light sanding and apply varnish. That would probably do the job for mine.

I haven't seen an MPP up close but I'm amazed at how close it looks like a Linhof. Is it really as well built as one?

Frank, I've got an MPP press and the build is nothing to shout about. I don't really know why I ever bought the thing and I've never used it. It will have to go soon. This is not an advertisement, just a comment on the quality (or lack of it).

The build quality is OK - you couldn't really describe it as the same quality as a Rollei or Leica or the best German marques. Apparently it was designed quite similarly to the Linhof of the time but manufactured in Britain.

Mentor 10x14 cm, rare format. Just finish fixing the camera. In despite of dimensions, it is light and can hold with one hand. Better to work on studio and mount on tripod any way!!!
Extreme front movements, tilts and swings. 4x5 adapted camera back. Can focus through the back or top GG. Comes with a beautiful Meyer-Görlitz Trioplan 4,5/300mm !
